As the weather keeps getting colder and colder, it’s a good idea to start preparing your home for the winter. Below are a few steps that you can take:

Have your furnace inspected and have filters on hand to last you through the next few months.

Make sure your fireplace is ready by cleaning the chimney and making sure everything is working properly.

Prevent plumbing freezes by making sure all your hoses are empty and checking all exposed pipes.

Prune any landscaping to prevent winter injury to the plants and your house or electrical wiring.

Prepare an emergency kit in case there is a weather event that causes the power to go out.

Clean your gutters so that water does not freeze and create a blockage.

If you follow these steps, you and your home should be well prepared for whatever this winter throws at us!

To help you with your task of keeping your house in repair, we have an extensive Customer Care program. All of our houses that we build come with Peace of Mind Warranties. These include not only our personal warranty, but warranties for products throughout your home. Also included is our “Contact Anytime” Policy throughout your first year of home ownership. We want to be there for you when you need us. While we are happy to offer one of the most comprehensive warranty programs in the region, ultimately it is up to you to make sure your home maintains its value by taking care of it for many years to come.

Our Customer Care program also includes quarterly reminders to all of our customers, providing them tips on how to keep up their home as the weather changes and years go by. Especially when you are a new homeowner, this is information you may not necessarily know and we want to give you as much information as possible to make your home ownership journey a positive one. We also have a collection of videos that you can access at your convenience containing various pointers and information that we have gathered over time. Every one of our customers also gets a Homeowners Journal that includes a Maintenance Manual with many tips on caring for your Mid-Atlantic home.
